Want to make money online without spending any? Well ok, you’ll have to have a computer and an Internet connection, but that’s it!
You don’t need a website, don’t have to pay for hosting, or even buy any domain names if you don’t want to, although you may want your own domain name (only about eight bucks a year!)
So how do you earn some quick cash online for free? You simply take advantage of some of the web 2.0 sites out there that are willing to share some of their profit with you. Write good keyword targeted content (more on this later) and write lots of it (I didn’t say there wasn’t work involved!) And they will give you a piece of the “pie”, their advertising income from Google AdSense, Amazon, eBay and others.
Here is a list of sites that will “trade” some of the profit for your good content:
1. Hubpages.com is a very user friendly site (and my favorite!) that requires no coding skills at all, and allows a writer to well… just write! No adult content is permitted and excessive self-promotion is also a no-no. Hubpages promotes high quality, original content. Hubbers can make money with their articles (hubs) with Google AdSense ads, Kontera contextual ads, Amazon products, eBay products, you can also generate income by driving traffic to other hubbers hubs, and by getting new members to sign-up and create money making hubs of their own.
2. Squidoo.com is somewhat like hubpages, but does allow some html and coding for techie members. They also do allow adult themed articles or “lenses” as they are called. Income can be generated by including ads from Amazon, Netflix, eBay, Cafepress, and others. Join Squidoo and become a lensmaster!
3. Infobarrel.com (second on my list) give their writers a share of the AdSense revenue generated by their articles.
4. eHow.com is the ultimate how-to site. You’ll need to join the writers compensation program to get a share of any revenue generated by your how-to articles.
5. Xomba.com gives writers a 50% cut of the AdSense monies generated by their articles or “Xombytes”. Xombytes only need to be 150 words long. You can also post Xomblurps (only 50 words long) which are links to websites, blogs, videos, or audio accompanied by a short original blurp.
6. Knol.com is a Wikipedia type of site and is owned by Google. The articles are called Knols and any money your content generates comes not surprisingly from AdSense ads.
7. Epinions.com is a consumer journalism site. As a member you post reviews on products or services.
8. About.com calls their members “guides” and their credentials and writing skill must be approved. Guides maintain Guidesites devoted to their topic or expertise. Money is generated by the number of page views your “site” generates.
9. Helium.com is an article directory that strives for quality in it’s content. The articles are rated by your fellow writers and the higher the ranking the more page views you get as well as the more money your article will generate.
10. Bukisa.com has a unique way of sharing revenue, but basically you are paid by the number of impressions your content receives. You can also earn extra cash when you bring new members on board and when they refer new members too-three levels deep!
11. Blogger.com Whoops I almost forgot! I have several Blogspot blogs and make more than a little money with them. Blogger is owned by Google also, and is very easy to monetize and work with. You can also sell affiliate products or services or even your own product or service. Unlike these other websites with Blogger you have a fully customizable blog to do just about anything your heart desires (within the TOS that is;o).
12. Today.com Get paid to blog.
13. Posturown.com Another article directory that will give you a cut of any money generated for your good articles.
14. AssociatedContent.com I’ve never used this one myself, but it’s contributing authors articles appear in the first page of the serps with regularity, and that’s what it takes to get a high recommendation from me. I’m going to have to publish some articles with them in the near future!
15. Triond.com Produce high quality original content, get published on one of their relevant sites and get 50% of any revenue generated.
16. Mahalo.com You can earn some extra money on Mahalo in several different ways:
- Answer questions (a lot like Yahoo Answers) but your answer has to be picked as the best one.
- By completing a Mahalo task (you complete tasks for other users.)
- Creating Mahalo pages (writing articles.)
17. Snipsly.com is one of my new favorites. They give you a 80/20 split on any money made by your articles, and your content can be shot like bookmarks or longer articles.
Well that should keep you busy. I don’t use all of these but have used several (Hubpages, Squidoo, Infobarrel, and eHow) with good results.
Don’t expect to write a few articles and give up your day job though, too be successful you need to write and submit articles on an ongoing basis. Earning extra cash online for free is…well free, but will take a whole lot of writing, writing and even more writing. It takes work! That’s all there is to it.
How To Make Sure Your Articles Make You Money
For the most part anyways. How can you get traffic to your articles so you can make some extra cash online? It all starts with keyword research! Whenever you write anything to be published online in the hopes of making money you need to do proper keyword research every single time!
If I’m writing an article that I want to rank well in the serps I nearly always go after the low-hanging fruit, or those keywords that get at least 500-1500 searches monthly (using Google’s keyword tool with the “exact match” option chosen) and have less than 10,000 competing pages that none of which have more than a PR3 or so. If you can find one with the top pages with only a PR0 you’re golden, and I would go for it!
This means that I have a good chance of getting my article to that coveted number one spot.
You should also go after keywords that cost advertisers at least a dollar a click (if AdSense is going to be in your monetization model.) I’m doing an experiment (you need to be experimenting constantly in this game) with writing articles that cost upwards of $35.00 a click, but it may be hard to go against the competition…time will tell.
Give Your Articles Some Link-Love To Generate Traffic And Revenue
You’ll need to give your articles some backlinks to really propel them up the serps. How do you do this? By writing more articles of course! Like I said you’ll be writing a lot so get used to it.
I like to write articles using the same keywords in the body as well as, more importantly, in the anchor text of the links back to your money making articles and/or content.
I then submit these articles manually to these article directories:
1. EzineArticles.com
2. Searchwarp.com
3. Goarticles.com
4. Isnare.com
5. ArticleAlley.com
6. ArticleBase.com
7. Buzzle.com
Why these directories? Because they sport some pretty good PR and they show up with regularity in the first page of the serps.
You won’t want to go crazy shooting links at a brand new article though, it’s better to build your backlinks gradually over time. I’ve found you can ride the article directory’s PR right up the serps, usually, (especially if you’ve chosen good keywords-lots of searches, but low competition!) Sometimes your article will just need a little push to get to the top spot ;o).
You can also use Brad Callen’s Article Submitter software, which has a free download and can get your article on about 70 or 80 directories (or opt for the paid version and get your article on hundreds of directories automatically.)
I’ve also found Unique Article Wizard and Article Marketing Automation to be real time savers. If you’re interested in getting unique articles with varying keyword anchored backlinks from literally hundreds of website, blogs, and article directories without much work you really need to check UAW and AMA out!
In Conclusion
I’m generating income and backlinks every day using these methods, and so can you. Whether you use just these Web 2.0 sites or opt for a hosted blog or two you will need backlinks and these sites can supply them in abundance, and a little extra cash never hurts either!

As well as Article Submitter, what about iSnare? It syndicates you article out to a database of several hundred article sites. I think submiteaze also features an article submission option as well.
I wasn’t aware of that Jayne, but there are a ton of software and services out there. I just write about the ones I know about or can find while researching.
I am definitely going to check out a few of these sites mentioned. You can also have adsense added to google’s Feedburner to make a few bucks from your RSS feed!

I have lots of articles in lots of places Paul. Here’s my Hubpage Profile Page, I only have a few articles (hubs) on this account but there will be many more to follow. I have a little experiment going with hubpages, and that is I’m going to write hubs (about ten) on topics with very high paying AdSense clicks and see if I can get them to rank (it’s much easier, because of Hubpages PR) in the serps and generate some of those high paying clicks. I’ll post about it at some point in time.
Yes, article marketing is a great way of getting traffic. I have used several of the directories mentioned in your post and they are all good.
Article Dashboard is also a quality directory with lots of traffic and high page rank.
I’ve found you get best results if you put your chosen keyword in the title, closer to the beginning if possible. Then try and put it in the first paragraph as well.

Making money online is never easy, You have to do hard work & spent some quality time on researching your keywords. However, your list is best i ever had, I have account in associated content, It’s good but as i said making money is never easy. They pay 1$ per 1000 views. By the way Ezinearticles are the best to generate traffic. Your post is useful for me, I will look forward to other links posted in your article.
I believe that article directory submission is the old SEO approach and still the most influential one. You can get back links for your blogs easily from them.
Ad if you are providing quality content in your articles than it also helps in building credibility for your blog. And makes the readers come again and again to you.
Making money online is hard, but those that make it can make it big! Perhaps you are one of those? It seems people split into two, those who want quick cash with short term ideas, which they try many of. And then there’s those (including myself) who play a more patient approach, with one key project. Not sure which idea is best, but i wish you the best. Another tip could be to build mailing lists to continue your money streams. Offering free downloads is a good way to start building these up.
If you think about a web site it is just a series of linked pages. Each page contains some content – information. That’s it, the information is an article. It can be a long or short article but it is still an article.I am emphasizing the point because if you are at all interested at all in making money online you really will need to be able to write articles. Writing can put some off. No need, it is straight forward, need not take up too much of your time and it is very enjoyable.

Also I think building an authority site in a niche with a bunch of smaller niche sites/articles pointing to that authority site is a good plan of action. However I agree that writing content for these sites can earn us money but all they require is traffic as well so it’s important to write on an ongoing basis as you’ve mentioned because you’ve to build your reputation there. If people will like your article there, they would like to see more of your articles soon and hence you start generating income slowly

Jerry, I really like that you take the time to reply to all of your comments. We don’t see that too often, but it shows that you really do encourage conversation on your blog. This was an informative article and I learned a few things – for example, I hadn’t heard of Buzzle. My question to you though, is how much money you could actually earn from these articles? I’m not trying to get you to reveal your income, but just in general how much would you expect to earn from each article? And how long does it take you to write one?

That’s why I even have this MMO blog Tim. I want to help others find some success online earning some extra money as well. I appreciate each and every comment I get. (and I know some are borderline spam, but as long as they somewhat on topic, I usually allow them;o) Yeah I hadn’t heard of all these sites myself, but found some through my research.
How much money can you actually earn through posting articles to these sites? Truthfully Tim the sky is the limit! It really is! You have to target a keyword phrase you can dominate fairly quickly, and that will pay well for AdSense ads, or have “ready to buy” visitors if selling an affiliate product or service, or of course your own product. I usually target keywords that will get at least 1000 searches a month using the “exact” option, so of course you will usually be limited by that number. Targeting keywords with a higher search volume usually doesn’t work because of the tougher competition. Although if you can find keywords with a higher search volume and little competition and that will be money-makers, I would definitely go for it! That’s one benefit of this system, you can test the waters with just a quick article, and if you are successful in landing page one of the serps you can write more articles on the same subject or even throw up a niche blog or even an authority site.
So to answer your question Tim, I would be happy if an article makes me anything at all really. It all adds up and is a numbers game really. If you are going to make enough money to quit the day job expect to have 100’s of articles out there, and I would have some hosted niche blogs, or authority sites (I lean towards authority sites myself) as well.
How long does it take to write one? Well my best day of article writing was 5, I’ve heard of people writing 10 or more in a day. I’m just not that fast at it. lol The real “trick” to writing articles quickly is to know your subject well, so you don’t have to research at all, you can just write!
If you plan on making any real money online, plan on writing a lot of good keyword targeted content. That my friend is where it’s at!
PS. One other use for articles I should add is in building an email list. You write an article (or a 100, ;o) on the subject of your email list and leave a link to your squeeze page, you can get a ton of eyeballs looking at your squeeze page this way.

Article submission is a great way to get exposure for your blog. I’ve published at many of the sites you’ve included in this post. It takes time, effort and creativity but making money online isn’t impossible. Just takes hard work and patience.

Earning money online is really not a big deal Ansh, but bringing in the kind of cash that will let you quit your day job tends to be a little more difficult. You just have to keep doing what works over and over again. I want to make my living from home, and I can assure you that won’t happen overnite for most of us!
